Course Description:

This course covers building technology related to non-structural elements of commercial and industrial construction. It concentrates on building components that are installed towards the end of the building process, such as suspended ceilings, partitions and joinery fittings.

Course Objectives:

• Design considerations for building components
• Controlling dimensions of components
• Dimensional co-ordination and modular grid
• Criteria used to determine the most viable method of manufacturing components
• Performance factors that affect the selection of components
• How various components relate to each other within the construction process
• Methods of dealing with junctions and joints at component interfaces
• Selection of suitable commercial finishes for various locations
